Lane configurations in the Pave Oak Park project
A map of the project is available here.
Fig. 1. Current lane configuration. Limited lanes in each direction produce inefficient vehicular flow as motorists attempt to navigate the traffic constipation of Oak Park. Traffic inexplicably flows much more efficiently on portions of the Eisenhower Expressway east and west of Oak Park, using the same number of lanes.
Fig. 2. Improved lane configuration. This improved lane configuration, an incidental benefit of paving Oak Park, will produce improved traffic flow and reduce the incidence of vehicular collisions due to congestion. Oak Park residents are expected to support the project because improved traffic flow will also reduce CO levels in areas near the widened expressway.
